From Digital Vision to Smarter Mining Operations
As the mining industry responds to growing resource demand and increasing pressure on efficiency, safety, and operational performance, digital technologies are becoming an increasingly important part of the transformation. AI, digital twins, and connected operations are moving beyond emerging concepts to practical tools for making better-informed decisions across the mining lifecycle. We recently hosted an exclusive seminar in Kolkata, bringing together leaders from across the mining sector to explore what this transformation means in practice.
The session featured a keynote by Dr Sanjeev Kumar Sinha, Director – Operations, Hindustan Copper Ltd, followed by insights from Ralph Smith, Management Director – APAC and North America, Dassault Systèmes, on next-generation mining solutions, AI, and the #3DEXPERIENCE Platform.
The panel discussion, moderated by Ralph Smith, brought together Karthikeyan Ramakrishnan, DMT GROUP; Dr. Suman Krishna Sit, MMPL Pvt. Ltd. (formerly, Maheshwari Mining Pvt. Ltd.); and Shameek Chattopadhyay, SRK Consulting. The discussion explored the practical challenges of technology adoption and the opportunities for creating more connected, efficient, and data-driven mining operations.
The conversation then moved from strategy to application, with Subhajit Banerjee, Dassault Systèmes, demonstrating how digital technologies can support real-time monitoring, operational decision-making, efficiency, and safety across mine operations.
The discussions highlighted an important shift for the industry: digital transformation is not simply about adopting new technologies, but about connecting people, processes, and data to enable better decisions and stronger operational outcomes.
A big thank you to all our speakers, panelists, and delegates for making the discussion insightful and for contributing to the conversation around the future of connected mining.
