EDS Technologies has successfully implemented customised SAP project management that includes SAP DMS, ECM & Project System for streamlining & establishing a collaborative environment between the engineering & other business functions at one of the largest heavy equipment manufacturer of excavators & concrete machinery in India. The customer was facing challenges in tracing the product design for both existing product and new product in various stages of designing. The R&D department had the problem regarding the visibility of the progress.

After implementing the project, the customer is able to generate unique Engineering Change Request (ECR) number for every individual request. The R&D department is able to pin point the exact position of the ECR and to overcome the bottle necks or delays in the process. The approval process has been automated with email alerts.

Engineering Change Management is a central logistics function that can be used to change various aspects of production basic data (for example, BOMs, task lists, materials, and documents) with history (with date effectivity) or depending on specific conditions (with parameter effectivity).

SAP PS enables users, such as project managers, to establish a defined start and end date of the project and separate it into its discrete elements and structures. Projects are organized by structures, using a work breakdown structure, which enables separating the main project into individual tasks and listing them in a hierarchical structure, and by process, using work packages, which lists activities and their features, such as start and finish dates.
