| Abstract: |
Customer uses lot of migrated data of the old trains to use it as base reference while designing new trains in CATIA V5. The data to be migrated typically contains models done by suppliers,consultants,outsourcing partners, engineers following old techniques,etc. While migrating the data, the CATIA V5 solid bodies pick up names as provided in the input or defaults that do not normally follow an order or convention. However, as a part of best practices, customer has a set of rules to name the solid bodies for CATIA V5 models and therefore all the migrated models have to be renamed as per the convention. This is a laborious and time consuming task and therefore is a bottle-neck for any new designs.
It is here, apart from the versatile CAD capabilities, the strong coding capability of CATIA V5 with VBA support has come in handy. The team has developed a macro using CATIA V5 VB script to rename the solid bodies automatically. This saves around 90% of the time it consumes otherwise. The time saving is enormous which can be spent usefully on the value added activities for the new design. |
