EDS Technologies recently hosted the very 1st Casting Simulation conference in Ahmedabad along with the Indian Institute of Foundrymen – Ahmedabad chapter on 26th September. The conference got active participation form various casting units and foundries in Ahmedabad, Baroda and Rajkot. It helped to create awareness on Casting Simulation Technology in the foundry society of Gujarat.
Mr.Amish Panchal, Chairman, IIF-Ahmedabad Chapter preceded the conference. Technical team from EDST gave presentations on casting simulation and PLM.
Casting Simulation is a new technology which helps foundries and casting units to reduce scrap and increase yield. Finite solutions, the world leader in casting simulation equip the foundry men with high end solutions to simulate and visualize the entire casting process including pouring, solidification and shrinkage formation. Using high end solutions like SolidCast, FlowCast and OptiCast one can import 3D models from any platform and it helps to optimize the risers required, where they should be placed, what size they should be, and what size and shape to use for sprues, runners and gates. Using this information, the foundrymen can fine-tune their design to produce the best casting possible, at the lowest cost. They can even have the system automatically redesign the process, using optimization techniques to search for the design which gives the optimum in quality and yield.

By running this programme the companies can run as many as 13 simulations in two weeks. In some cases the lead time saved is as high as 39 weeks.
