How do I get a report on LUM licenses that get denied to a user. |
|
A license denial happens when the LUM server has no more licenses left to grant to a user. In other words, the number of "in-use" licenses is equal to the number of total licenses. When this is the case, the next use to request a license will be denied a license and will be preveted from working. |
|
To generate this report you need to set LogErrors=yes in the i4ls.ini file for your LUM server. This is bececase a license denial gets reported as an "Event Type: ERROR". You can see the denials by generating a full LUM report or by just generating the LUM error report. To generate an error report from the command line you enter i4blt -r1 -e4 |
|
How to reset the in-use license counts? |
|
IMPORTANT-This should only be done in a NON-PRODUCTION environment |
- Stop the LUM Server.
- Go to the directory where LUM V5 db is installed and delete the usrdb.dat and usrdb.idx. On Windows, this is c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\IBM\License Use Management.
- Restart LUM. The user database will automatically get rebuilt and there will be no in-use licenses.

Restricting User Access Using the Basic License Tool |
|
This scenario explains how to restrict user access using the basic license tool. This scenario is applicable only to concurrent licenses. This scenario shows you how to: Modify the default authorization.
Create authorization records for a specific concurrent license. This allows the authorized users to take the license.
Modify a created authorization.
To manage this kind of license:
Double-click the product in the administration tool main window, then click the Concurrent tab. The Concurrent Licenses - Details window is displayed
To modify the default authorization, from the Concurrent Licenses - Details window, right-click on the product and select Selected > Authorizations. The Authorization window is displayed The default setting is for all licenses to be allowed. For the selected license, the window shows the mode in which each user can use the license. There are two different modes for license use:
All allowed. Any user can start using the license.
All not allowed. No users are allowed to use the license. A user requires specific authorization to use the license.
You decide that users can use the license only if they have a specific authorization, so you click All not allowed. Create the first authorization record for a specific user. From the Authorization window click Add. The Add Authorization window is displayed Fill in the details for the new User and Group alone, or in any combination. Set the Mode for the use of the license for this specific user. The modes are similar to the modes in the Authorization window except that they are for the individual user and group being authorized.

Downward Compatibility Utility in CATIA V5 |
|
Purpose: Usability of Data from Higher to Lower Versions of CATIA.
|
This utility is used for converting CATPart(s) from a higher version to lower version; e.g., a CATPart from V5 R11 with an OEM Customer can be converted and provided to an OEM Supplier / Vendor using V5 R10.
Steps to use: |
- Select "Utility" command from Tools menu.
- Double-click on Downward Compatibility Utility to open a new GUI for the operation.
- Click Folder icon to Select documents to be converted (multiple documents can be selected for one operation).
- Check "Replace" to overwrite the same CATPart(s) selected above.
- Check "Pointed Documents" to convert any related documents with the CATPart (CATProduct containing this
- CATPart will be converted; CATDrawing derived and linked to this CATPart will be converted). (For this facility - Tools > Options > General > General > Load Referenced Documents option should be checked.)
- Select operation "Convert" from given "Convert / Synchronize / Info"
- Select Version to which CATPart should be transformed. (V5R10 to V5R6) available in V5R11.
- Type in path / select by clicking folder icon - the Target Directory in which converted CATPart will be saved!
- Click "Save" to save Parameters file in a Custom Directory. This file keeps a record of every user-setting done at that time and can be used for the same operations on other CATParts.
- Finally click "RUN" to execute the batch process.
|
|
Do not close the "Console Window" that opens up the when process is running.
Reports for the converted documents are generated and saved in Target Directory.
These reports can be opened to see the results of the operation - whether successful or aborted with error definitions.

How to do a complete LUM uninstall and reinstall on Windows |
|
The following process was used to completely uninstall and reinstall LUM, including the removal and rebuilding of the corrupted i4ls.ini file:
- Use Add/Remove Programs to uninstall LUM 4.6.8 on Windows.
- Delete the C:\IFOR directory completely, including all of its files and subdirectories.
- Search for and delete all occurrences of the i4ls.ini file. Be sure that the search includes "hidden" files. There can be multiple occurrences of this i4ls.ini file. This file is usually found in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\IBM\LUM
- Use regedit to delete the Registry Entry I4DRIVER, if it exists, in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IBM\License Use Runtime
- Reboot the machine. Do Start/Control Panel/Network Connections. If you have more than one network adapter enabled (wireless, FireWire, Ethernet), temporarily disable all network adapters except for the one you normally use (typically Ethernet). If the AT&T Global Network (AGN) Virtual Network Adapter appears as a Network Adapter, be sure to temporarily disable it too, because it is not suitable for use by LUM.
