Great design in a vehicle must be comfortable, functional and easy to use. CATIA V5 enables the mechanical engineer to work directly on the design prepared by the designer to develop increasingly innovative mechanisms. In the car seat production industry, Faurecia partnered with Ford to develop the Ford Foldflat System for the new Galaxy and the ground-breaking S-Max which has been named Car of the Year 2007. Faurecia combines comfort for 5-rear seat passengers with an easy-to-use, one lever folding system for the rearmost seats which disappear into the floor of the vehicle. The combination of design and ergonomics made possible by integrated design environments has lead to increased levels of comfort in the space available in an automobile.
Interior designers need to design for economic manufacture as well as for passenger comfort. The challenge in both automobiles and aircraft is to adapt standard designs to different interior dimensions.
Finally, the strength and crash resistant properties of the vehicle interior can be analyzed with SIMULIA. Different structural designs and material choices can be explored to achieve the performance required for certification while minimizing weight.
