CM Labs Simulations releases new modular architecture Vortex Dynamics 6 on ease of integration
|
“Users are not locked into a particular visualization solution,” said CM Labs Marketing
Director Sebastien Loze. “If you want to change image generators—or conduct research
without graphics—you can, without affecting the dynamics.”
“This vastly reduces the time required for the verification and validation process—which
for many of our clients is often the most costly part of building physical simulations,” said Loze.
Globally, release 6.0 focuses heavily on ease of use, with numerous
improvements and simplifications to the Vortex Dynamics API, along with comprehensive
user documentation.
|
Vortex Dynamics’ new modular architecture is an extension of CM Labs’ focus on ease of
integration. The software now offers simple interfaces to connect and integrate with image
generators or other
simulation systems, or to stream/read terrains.
With simulation and graphics now completely decoupled, users can
change the expression of the graphics without touching simulated objects.

Vortex Dynamics 6.0 Highlights
Modularity
There are three levels of enhancements related to modularity in 6.0:
|
1. Terrain database integration
|
The new Terrain Producer module makes it possible to easily
translate requests from Vortex Dynamics to any existing terrain database. Support for OpenFlight and
|
2.Visualization solution integration
Vortex Dynamics provides out-of-the-box integration with OpenSceneGraph and Vega Prime.
Its new modular structure now allows users to simply and quickly integrate with any v
isualization solution. With Vortex Dynamics 6.0’s fundamental decoupling of dynamics
and graphics, changes in visualization or graphics files do not effect changes in
dynamics. This saves time for users, as it eliminates unnecessary QA and verification
procedures.
|
3. Communication standards
Vortex’s HLA interoperability provides compatibility with run-time infrastructures (RTIs) from all leading
vendors (Pitch, VT MAK, Raytheon-VTC), as well as the NATO Training and Education Network architecture.
Vortex is also compatible with the widely supported Real-time Platform Reference
Federation Object Model (RPR FOM),
and is completely FOM-agile.
Vortex Dynamics interoperability is now assured via the HLA Evolved standard, as well as previous
HLA versions (HLA 1.3, HLA 1516-2000).
|
4. Communication standards
Cables
The new VxCableSystem module in Vortex Dynamics allows for straightforward, logical creation of mechanisms involving cables.
Sustainable extensions and plugins
All assets developed in Vortex Dynamics 6.0 maintain full compatibility with 5.x assets. In addition, highly specific physics constraints can be implemented as plugins in Vortex Dynamics 6.0.
Code reusability is also more straightforward, with new extensions for enriching Vortex mechanisms and scenes, including graphics extensions, dynamics extensions, and user extensions such as I/O, joystick, and keyboard.
“Ultimately, Vortex Dynamics 6.0 users will benefit from faster simulation development time, and the ability to re-use simulated objects in a much more persistent way,” said CM Labs CEO Robert Weldon.
